Dogara receives 1st black MP in Poland, assures investors of Govt's resolve to eliminate corruption in business

The Speaker of the ‎House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, has invited foreign investors to come and invest in Nigeria, saying the present administration is in the process of clearing out hurdles raised by corruption which had previously discouraged some investors from doing business in Nigeria.
A press release issued by his special adviser on Media and Public Affairs‎, Mr Turaki Hassan, stated that the Speaker also‎ urged the Polish government and business community to take advantage of the ongoing diversification of Nigeria's economy to invest in fast growing sectors such as energy, solid minerals, tourism and agriculture.
The Speaker said this when he received the only black legislator in the Polish parliament, a Nigerian, John Abraham Godson, in his office yesterday, who led some members of the ‎Polish/African forum to pay him a courtesy visit.
"There is a new government in Nigeria, a government that is emphasizing due process and fighting corruption in Nigeria, so the implication of that is that the cost of doing business in Nigeria will definitely go down as we combat the hydra headed monster of corruption in this country.”
"I want to enjoin you, as you follow your discussion with the Polish business community, that you look into areas like agriculture; solid minerals abound here, energy as well and then the issue of tourism. We hold in our borders, vast resorts for tourism," he said.
Earlier, MP John Abraham Godson informed the Speaker that the Polish/Africa forum's main goal is to promote partnership with Nigeria.
He therefore sought partnership with the National Assembly to put modalities in place that will promote investment between the two countries.

76 Hungry Boko Haram Members Surrender To Nigerian Military

Dozens of emaciated-looking Boko Haram members begging for food have surrendered in northeast Nigeria, the military and a civilian self-defense fighter said Wednesday. Seventy-six people including children and women gave themselves up to soldiers last Saturday in Gwoza, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southeast of Maiduguri, according to a senior officer. All are being detained at military headquarters in Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram and currently the command center of the war against the Islamic extremists, according to the officer. He insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to journalists. The detainees said many more fighters want to surrender, a self-defense civilian fighter who helped escort them to Maiduguri told The Associated Press. Food shortages could indicate that Nigeria's military is succeeding in choking supply routes of the Islamic extremists who have taken their fight across Nigeria's borders. Some 20,000 people have died in th...
