A self-acclaimed member of Eiye confraternity yesterday gave a graphic description of how he murdered one of his rivals during a birthday party held in Mushin area of Lagos last week. President Muhammadu Buhari said Wednesday in Abuja that he remained fully confident that by the end of this year, Boko Haram will have been completely obliterated. The Economic and Financial Crimes a Commission (EFCC) has arrested Alhaji Muktar Umar Yerima, former special adviser to Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso. According to EFCC, Yerima who is the current chairman of Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State was arrested early yesterday morning over allegations of corruption. Yerima is alleged to have diverted over N65,000,000.00 approved to participants in the Millennium Development Goals empowerment programme.

Senators from Rivers State on Saturday insisted that they would oppose the nomination of a former governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi. Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, died on Saturday at the age of 62. It was learnt that he died of a high blood pressure. Alamieyeseigha, who died around 4pm, was earlier rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital from his residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday. A source told SUNDAY PUNCH that the governor stayed briefly in Yenagoa last week before he went to Port Harcourt where his health condition worsened. It was learnt that the ex-governor later slipped into a coma and had been on life support for two days until his death on Saturday. His remains, according to a source at the UPTH, were later moved to the mortuary in the hospital. The source said, “He was down ‘somehow’ for the past few days. He was in Yenagoa and from Yenagoa to his Port Harcourt house. It was from his Port Harcourt house that they moved him to UPTH. “He was moved to UPTH from his house in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. He died this afternoon around 4pm.

Rivers State Government on Friday ordered the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, former military administrator of the state, Anthony Ukpo (retd.) and others who had held public offices in the past to return N97bn. An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 20 year old housemaid, identified as Vivian, to 2 months’ imprisonment for stealing her female boss' sets of underwear and other valuables. The maid who was employed by Bisi Awoniyi, was on a salary of N20,000 per month and had 1 day off each week. On September 9th which was her arranged day off, her boss asked to search her bag before she could leave. During the search, the boss discovered face towels, several pieces of underwear and night wears that belonged to her (the boss). After checking the accused’s phone, she also discovered that Vivian had three different newly-opened bank accounts. The boss immediately reported the matter to Dolphin Police Station, Ikoyi, and Vivian was arrested. At least three persons were confirmed dead, at Obolloafor Market square in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, following heavy rainfall which fell a tree reportedly used as a deity by the community. A four-year-old girl bled for eight days after she was allegedly raped by her school bus driver, her grandmother, Mrs. T. Ajose, has said. Mrs Ajose, a businesswoman, claimed the suspect, Yemi Adesina, committed the act within the school premises. The suspect, who has been detained at the Panti Police Station in Adekunle, Yaba, Lagos, allegedly had carnal knowledge of the Nursery II pupil in a classroom on September 17.
