A Rwandan pastor accused of leading and coordinating attacks on minority Tutsis during Rwanda's 1994 genocide has been jailed for life, Rwanda's high court said on Wednesday, December 30. An estimated 800,000 ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed by dominant Hutu forces in the genocide in 100 days. Jean Uwinkindi,64, who once led the Kayenzi Pentecostal church in the rural outskirts of the capital Kigali, was convicted of crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the slaughter. "The court finds that there were killings of the Tutsi at Rwankeri and Kanzenze hills and that the attacks were led by Uwinkindi," said Judge Kanyegeri Timothee.Uwinkindi was arrested in Uganda in 2010 and the following year his case was referred from the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, in Tanzania, to the Rwandan national court system. Contrary to reports in some quarters that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government earmarked the sum of N1.7 billion for feeding in the Presidential Villa, a copy of the relevant section of the 2016 Appropriation Bill obtained by The Herald showed that only about N114.97 million was earmarked. Recall that rumour had pervaded the media space, especially the social media, that Buhari planned to surpass the amount spent by the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration as many as four times. A comparative analysis of the last administration’s total expenditure on “feeding” which included items like Food Stuff / Catering Materials Supplies, Cooking Gas/Fuel Cost, Refreshment & Meals, and Purchase Of canteen / Kitchen Equipment, in the last two years showed it allocated more funds than the new administration. Former National Security Advisor, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd) met his bail conditions Tuesday, December 29, 2015 night. He was released from Kuje Prisons in Abuja where he was being remanded. 62-year-old Babatunde Idris has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for parading himself as a colonel in the Nigerian Army and using a fake identity to defraud one Yinusa Mustapha of the sum of N40m. The state Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, said Idris was arrested after a petition was filed against him. He said: “Following a petition received alleging the fraudulent activities of Idris, the command’s Anti-kidnapping Squad swung into action and arrested the suspect, who until his arrest had fraudulently obtained various sums of money from his victims.” Oyebade added that the suspect promised his last victim, Mustapha, that he would help him to get a certificate for oil importation in 2012, but up till now that hasn't been done. The Federal Government has said the transmitters for Radio Biafra, which has been accused of spreading secessionist agenda and campaigning for the carving out of a Biafra Republic from Nigeria, were found to be installed on MTN masts in Enugu and Anambra states. The police officers who took one way and knocked down a University of Port Harcourt Mechanical Engineering student Edah Oghenekevwe Richard (Read story here), have been identified and arrested by the Rivers state Police command. A prominent Syrian journalist and documentary film maker known for his anti-Daesh/ISIS films has been assassinated in Turkey's Southern Anatolia region. Andres Moreno, who weighed 980lbs at his heaviest, passed away on the morning of Christmas Day Dec. 25th as he was being rushed to hospital from his home in Ciudad Obregón in Sonora, Mexico. He suffered a fatal heart attack in the ambulance and could not be revived. Over 20 people are feared dead after a Gas Depot owned by Chicason Group and located along traffic light at Nnewi-Okigwe road behind Innoson Motor Manufacturing industry in Nnewi, Anambra state exploded on xmas eve. The fire destroyed the Depot and its surroundings including some buildings and cars around it. Workers, customers and motorcyclists are among those feared dead. The cause of the fire which started this afternoon is yet to be ascertained.

An unemployed Senegalese man who was rescued by the Spanish coastguard after making a risky journey from Morocco eight years ago on a packed wooden boat won 400,000 euros ($437,000) in Spain’s annual Christmas lottery, local media reported Wednesday. The 2016 Budget presented to the Natonal Assembly yesterday shows that N433.4 billion has been earmarked for the ministry of Power, Works and Housing which is led by former governor of lagos state Babatunde Raji Fashola who is now the minister of the ministry. President Muhammadu Buhari stated this on Tuesday in his 2016 budget speech delivered at the Joint session of the National Assembly. “To deliver our development objectives, we have increased the capital expenditure portion of the budget from N557 billion in the 2015 budget to N1.8 trillion in the 2016 budget.“For the first time in many years, capital expenditure will represent 30 per cent of our total budget.“In future years, we intend to raise the percentage allocation for capital expenditure,” he said.

A group of Kenyan Muslims travelling on a bus ambushed by Islamist gunmen, protected Christian passengers by refusing to be split into groups during an attack by Islamic sect members on their bus which was traveling from the capital Nairobi to the town of Mandera this morning. The militants ambushed the bus, asked all the passengers to come down, then they asked the Muslims among them to return into the bus while the Christians should stay back. Kenyan media reports that the Muslim passengers refused to be separated, telling the militants "to kill them together or leave them alone". "The locals showed a sense of patriotism and belonging to each other. Justice Peter Affect of the Federal High Court in Abuja, this morning granted embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, former Minister of State for Finance, Bashir Yuguda, former director of finance at the office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu; a N250 million bail each over their involvement in a N9.6 billion fraud.. The presiding judge granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N250 million each with a surety in like sum. He ruled that the surety must be a civil servant, serving or retired and not less than the rank of a director. He added that the accused persons should submit their passports with the court registrar and that they must notify the court before traveling outside Abuja

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has granted bail to former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki, and four others standing trial for alleged money laundering and criminal breach of trust. Others standing trial over a 19-count charge preferred against them include, a former director of finance at the office of the NSA, Shuaibu Salisu, a former Group General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Aminu Baba ​Kusa and two firms, Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Reference Hospital. Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf granted bail ​to the accused persons ​on the sum of N250 Million on the condition that they produce a surety each who must be a ​serving or retired ​civil servant ​not lower than the rank of a director. The ​c​ivil servant must also show possession of a property within the FCT worth the same amount​, the judge ordered.​ All the accused we​re also asked to deposit copies of their ​i​nternational passports with the ​c​ourt registrar.

The money was lost Wednesday afternoon after Erika Gonzalez, her mother and her son Damien went to a bank to place the money, which came from a restaurant her father owns in San Jose and proceeds from rental houses. They were told that there were no safe-deposit boxes available for the cash, so they ran some errands and then went to the Applebee’s. Later in the evening, they learned the money was missing. They believed it had been left behind at the bank, but when they called, they were told by bank officials that no money had been found.
