Be A Responsible Statesman And Leave Gabriel Suswam Alone - Gabriel Torwua Suswam’s Media Team Replies Akume

Akume, Be a Responsible Statesman and Leave Gabriel Suswam Alone
We read with utmost disappointment a report titled, ‘Akume lashes at Suswam’ carried on page 54 of Monday, 28th December, 2015 edition of The Nation newspapers.
Indeed, we are disappointed but not surprised for it is now common knowledge that it has become a tradition with a carefully composed anthem for Akume and his followers to run down the name of Gabriel Suswam at any function; be it as infinitesimal as naming ceremonies. As such, we would have, as usual, ignored his typical ranting especially as the report indicated the ‘lash’ was done during a ‘Christmas party’, where it is obvious enough booze, including Gulder could never have been absent. Yet, we still feel there is need to put records straight if not for anything, at least to enlighten the unsuspecting member of the general public.
1. Except for Sen. Akume and his likes nursing grudges against the person of Gabriel Suswam in perpetuity, any discerning mind who was in touch with happenings in Benue at the time and have an idea of what conscience is, would agree that during that organised inversion of Tiv and Agatu lands in Benue state, Suswam as Governor did his best in not only adequately mobilizing and relating accordingly with the security structures through his constant briefing of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the country’s Armed Forces, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan but equally significantly ensured the displaced persons as a result of the crises were tolerably taken care of. It was an understandable demonstration of a true leader who would want to authenticate the actual happenings within his kingdom that same Suswam nearly paid with his life when the prowlers opened fire at him and his entourage during an on the spot assessment of the devastation at Guma, same place Akume has never visited to brief the people as his constituents but now excitedly went to feed the people with slur campaigns against Suswam.
2. Records would confirm to anyone who would want to verify that Suswam inherited torrents of devastating communal clashes including the ones between Masev/Shangev; Kusuv/Ikyurav; Ipav/Ukan; Ukan/Gaav etc. Also, Makurdi the state capital and the other urban towns in the state remained insecured with criminals on the prowl. It is similarly a provable actuality that throughout Suswam’s tenure, issues of communal clashes were reduced to the barest minimum while issues of armed robbery and kidnapping were very scanty.
3. Contrastingly, Sen. George Akume while the inversion of the greatest part of his constituency was on, understandably lost his voice at the Senate where he was the Minority leader even as the likes of Emmanuel Jime and Christy Alaaga from lower chambers had on a number of occasions alerted the country of the devastation in their constituencies.
The Zone B senator never for once mentioned the issue of the untoward development either on the floor of the red chambers or at a press conference. Akume, should be educated further that security is not a one man show. Again, when ‘government’ is mentioned, it is beyond one person called the Governor. Perhaps, he may have easily forgotten that, that was why during his kindergarten and sheepish handling of the Zaki-Biam crises resulting to the murder in cold blood of hundreds, this same Rt. Hon. Gabriel Suswam whom he now delights in running down and Sen. Daniel Saror then at the national assembly consistently blew the trumpet at the centre for the world to know of the ill-treatment and pogrom on their constituents. We await any evidence from the former Minority Leader of his contribution, intellectually or otherwise towards wadding off the war that enveloped almost half of his constituency.
4. If integrity means anything to Akume, he would have known right within him that he lacks the moral standi to comment on issues of security, especially as they affect Benue state. Let him equally be reminded that, (though he once told the Nigeria senate that it was from 1979), records show that he was Governor from 1999-2003; an inglorious era that unarguably witnessed the highest level of bloodshed in the history of the state. Who is in this country and particularly in this state and was at least of school age that cannot remember how almost all sections of the state, especially the Tiv speaking area were at war with one another with the state authority under Akume strappingly believed to have a hand in sponsorship of some? For a man who ruled over a state, unleashed terror on his people, with hundreds of people killed in cold blood while some of his relations went on exile for fear for their lives to come out and accuse another of compromising security, simply point to the fact that he must have gotten the meaning of the word ‘compromise’ from a brownish bottle not in an English dictionary.
5. On the issue of the Gbajimba road, since the senator decided he would consistently stand truth on its head, let him go ahead and tell the people which company he awarded the contract to and how much he paid, how much work was done before the coming into power of Gabriel Suswam. Was there any road in any part of the state that Akume constructed while in office for eight years as Governor? If he had none as we know, it rather add to yet another critical question that, what happened that for eight years, Akume would be looking for a scape-goat in Suswam on while he could not build a road for a people? Who is the owner of Value Trust Company ltd? What happened that the senator went hush when Doyin Okupe opened up in the media on the same contract? Is Akume aware that till date, his senatorial district has the worse dilapidated federal highways? The people would indubitably be supplementary fascinated to know why Makurdi-Naka-Ankpa road (now almost unmotorable), Makurdi-Yandev-Ugbema road, Makurdi-Lafia road from Kadarko down Makurdi are in a terrible shape. What are his efforts to call the attention of the federal government to such? Or Suswam should equally be held responsible for his sealed lips during deliberations on the floor on such sensitive and other related issues of that nature?
6. We appeal to Akume to grow up and be responsible. Let him always owe up to his goof to the people especially of his constituency and refrain from ferociously, and in a perpetual manner using the name of Gabriel Suswam as cover. Let him always tell the people why with enormous experience he has from the peak of state civil service to presiding over a state for eight years and now third term parliamentarian, he could not sponsor a single bill to his credit while in the chambers for over nine years running. Suswam, just like him, (Akume), came, saw and did his best.
It is in our view that Akume should stop consciously been disingenuous to Ortom. It would be to the best interest of the state if instead of insisting the anthem on Suswam be sung at any point, Akume allow the Governor to do his best too so that at the end of the day, whether he would be judged right or wrong by the people, God’s judgement would remain supreme.

76 Hungry Boko Haram Members Surrender To Nigerian Military

Dozens of emaciated-looking Boko Haram members begging for food have surrendered in northeast Nigeria, the military and a civilian self-defense fighter said Wednesday. Seventy-six people including children and women gave themselves up to soldiers last Saturday in Gwoza, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southeast of Maiduguri, according to a senior officer. All are being detained at military headquarters in Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram and currently the command center of the war against the Islamic extremists, according to the officer. He insisted on anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to journalists. The detainees said many more fighters want to surrender, a self-defense civilian fighter who helped escort them to Maiduguri told The Associated Press. Food shortages could indicate that Nigeria's military is succeeding in choking supply routes of the Islamic extremists who have taken their fight across Nigeria's borders. Some 20,000 people have died in th...

The True Story Behind St Valentine- Saint Of Lov

The exact birth of this extraordinary saint is historically unknown but we known from available records was that he was a Catholic priest during the reign of the Roman Emperor Claudius II during the 3rd century. The Roman Emperor Claudius II was involved in many bloody and unpopular war campaigns to get more men to join his army. He believed at the time that the reason why he was finding it difficult to get men to join the military was that the Roman men were very dedicated to their wives and family. As a result, Claudius forbid the rites of marriages and engagements in Rome. St Valentine was a priest in Rome during his reign. He and St Marius ignored the official order and performed secret marriages of some loving couples for this deed. He was arrested and dragged before the Prefect of Rome who condemned him to a Three part execution of beating, stoning and to be beaten to death with his head cut off. He is reputed to have suffered martyrdom having been beaten to death on the 14th ...
