Military Action Alone Can’t Defeat War On Terror - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari in a statement delivered on Tuesday at the Global Leaders’ Summit on Countering ISIL and Violent Extremism organised by President Barack Obama on the sideline of the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York said military action alone would never be enough to end terrorism and extremism around the globe. He said good governance, transparency, accountability and rule of law, are some of the best ways to start the process of ridding the world of terrorism. He said while Nigeria acknowledges the efforts by the UN and the international community to tackle ISIS, a lot more needs to be done. He said: “Nigeria notes with satisfaction the efforts of the United Nations and the rest of the international community to contain ISIL. We certainly need to do more. “We need to take military action combined with effective border security, intelligence collection and sharing, and vigorous policing action. “These alone may not suffice, but they can certainly stem the ti

Buhari Likes Fulani Herdsmen – Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, says President Muhammadu Buhari, who is a Fulani man, is sympathetic towards Fulani herdsmen. The former minister said this in a Facebook post titled, ‘Herdsmen from hell’ while reacting to the abduction of a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Fani-Kayode said Buhari had in the past referred to Fulani herdsmen as ‘my people’. He, therefore, argued that he was not surprised that Fulani herdsmen were hardly arrested despite their many acts of violence. He said, “In the last few years the Fulani herdsmen have attacked, ravaged and pillaged many rural communities south of the River Niger and they have slaughtered and raped thousands of innocent people in the South-South, the South-East and the South-West. “We recall how, after a violent clash between them and some Yoruba farmers in Oyo State in 2000, General Buhari (as he then was) led a strong delegation of northern leaders

Sylva Accepts Cancellation Of APC Primary

Former Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State who was declared the winner of the disputed All Progressives Congress governorship primary last week has accepted the cancellation of the exercise by the leadership of the party. A statement signed on behalf of the campaign team by Mr. Doifie Buokoribo, on Tuesday, however, said Sylva would abide by the party’s decision because as a loyal party member, he believes in the supremacy of the party. The campaign organisation, in the statement titled, “We will win again,” told supporters to remain calm and steadfast, saying, “Ultimately, our victory is sure.” The statement by the campaign team read in part, “The cancellation of the September 22 primary, where Chief Timipre Sylva was overwhelmingly voted by the APC family in our state to be the governorship candidate at the Dece

Marriage is both social and political. Expanding the links of Kano which have already been established by my predecessors through inter-marriage with Katsina, Sokoto, Ilorin, Katagum, Ningi, Bauchi etc to Adamawa is an important and significant step and this is obvious to anyone with a sense of how royal families work and Ibn Khaldun’s sociological concept of Asabiyyah. When the Emir of Kano marries it has to be something beyond what he personally desires to what is appropriate for that position and the expectations of the people he represents. You don’t just pick up any girl on the street. And by the way, for those who shout libido, sex is cheap and available everywhere in all shapes and sizes and all colours if that is what they want. And all ages too. Marriage is a very different proposition. The mother of your children has to be something other than, not at least much more than a mere object of sexual fantasy. But if you do not know that you need to buy yourself a brain. I have da

I am sure NC members all have their views and have kept quiet out of (appropriate) deference to our right to make our individual choice. Obviously I do not need to explain anything to anyone in a purely personal matter but a few points are worthy of note: 1.The lady in question is 18 and therefore legally of age to marry under all laws and certainly under Muslim law. 2.She is proceeding for her undergraduate education in the UK in January. She had an A in computer science in her O levels and plans to get a degree in computer science. 3.Each and every one of my wives is a university graduate and some have worked and then stopped and in each case the choice was purely theirs. 4.It is a tradition in Kano that emirs and princes in choosing wives consider issues beyond the individual. The family is in every sense a social unit. My predecessor was married to princesses from Ilorin, Katsina and Sokoto. 5.The relationship between the late Lamido of Adamawa Aliyu Musdafa the father of the curr

Nigeria is ready and willing to partner with international agencies and individual countries on a bilateral basis to confront crimes and corruption. In particular, I call upon the global community to urgently redouble efforts towards strengthening the mechanisms for dismantling safe havens for proceeds of corruption and ensuring the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin"he said On the Chibok girls,

Go To Court, Odigie-Oyegun Tells Sylva

The All Progressives Congress on Monday ordered a fresh governorship primary. The National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, said this at the end of the party’s National Working Committee meeting, in Abuja. He told one of the party’s aspirants, Timpire Sylva, who is also a former governor of the state to go to court if he was dissatisfied with the decision of the party. “Mr. Sylva can go to court because that is what the court is meant for,” Odigie-Oyegun said. We Won't Abandon Saraki - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has said that the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, is fit for the office he is occupying; hence it is not considering any candidate to replace him. The PDP denied reports that it was already looking for a senator from the opposition party to replace Saraki, who is currently under pressure to resign from office following his trial for false asset declaration by the Code of Conduct Tribunal. Nigeria’s two main labour unions–Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress – on Saturday demanded Saraki’s resignation on moral grounds consequent upon his trial at the CCT. The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, who spoke to our correspondent on Sunday, said the party still believed that the trial of Saraki was political and that the PDP would not think of abandoning the Senate president until it sees the merit of the case. Metuh said, “We have no candidate for the office of the Senate President, because we have a fit person occupying the

One of the officers manning the Villa told one of our correspondents that the ADC to the President, Lt. Col. We Play Politics With Religion And Tribe In Nigeria - Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has identified politics in matters of religion and tribe as a major problem facing the Nation at the moment. Speaking at the National Ecumenical Center Abuja where the Thanksgiving service to commemorate the 55th Independence of Nigeria held yesterday September 27th, Osinbajo said Nigerians must dissociate themselves with from such tribal and religious lines as the issues that affect the country affects all irrespective of tribe or religion. "Our nation is sharply divided for long along religious and tribal lines. The moment we are divided against ourselves we can’t stand. We must also speak on the unity of the country. It will make a difference in the future of this country. Our country’s major problem is that we play politics with everything. We play politics with religion, we play politics with tribe. When a bomb goes off in Potiskum or Maiduguri, it doesn’t ask questions, whether you are a Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa. The issues that we see go beyond th

Has The Benue State House Of Assembly Forgotten Its Responsibility?

I read a news report in which the Majority Leader of the State Assembly was quoted as saying the Assembly will embark on a screening exercise of workers next week. According to him, they want to ‘compliment’ the screening done by the State government. A good development, isn’t it? While the Fulani marauders continue to unleash terror on innocent farmers in many parts of the State, the Assembly has done nothing serious in this regard. The last I heard was a motion ( by Hon Terna-kester Kyenge) on the floor of the House. Thereafter, nothing more was done. Not even a visit to the affected communities. Even as I write some people cannot go back to their villages because they are afraid of Fulani attacks. While I see nothing wrong in the State Assembly conducting screening for staff, it is rather strange that the planned screening is coming at a time when the State government is yet to round up her own screening exercise. For those who do not understand the financial implication of such sc

Dear Guys, Letter of Apology - By Joy Oforka

A letter of apology to some of guys from writer, Joy Oforka. Read below... The world would be a peaceful place if people learnt to say "I'm sorry". Knowing that you have so badly offended, I, on behalf of those offenders, come to offer my sincere apologies. I sincerely apologise for those silly girls. I am deeply sorry for whatever wrongs their senselessness caused them to commit. I do not blame you for trying to beat some sense into them. I only blame the first lady you hit who made you think it was not really bad to hit a lady. She probably went "you go kill me today" when she should have served you your own meal in a finer dish. That should have restored your default settings. So, for that terrible first impression, I go on bended knees. I apologise for those girls who did what they did on that date with you. I was about to explain the difference between you and their godfathers when your calls came in and they ran off. Just on a two-hour date, they ate brea

We now agreed, thank God we now have a reputable diagnostic centre where we can have that test done. Appointment was fixed, we went there. I paid the fee of N75, 000 for the test. Sincerely speaking, the first time I entered that place was the first time I met the guy that conducted the test. And the second time I was meeting him was when we went for the result. “We went there and the man asked us salient questions; are we conducting the test for peace of mind or judicial purposes? And the two parties agreed that it was just to clear our conscience. I didn’t know there were different types of tests for different purposes. The test was done and some few days later, I was called by the man that the result was ready. The other party was called too. We attended. “And the guy opened his e-mail, having made us to realise that they have a partner in the US and that they don’t run the test in their own lab there.
